Macnas is an internationally acclaimed Irish performance and spectacle company based on the campus of the National University of Ireland Galway city. For 30 years Macnas has successfully staged ground-breaking spectacle to huge audiences at festivals and celebrations at home and around the globe. We have toured the world performing with U2, celebrated the millennium in Times Square and have floated a 35 foot giant Gulliver on the River Liffey. We celebrate storytelling on an epic scale, energising audiences, encouraging community and audience participation whilst capturing the heart and imagination of all ages. Macnas is still firmly rooted on the streets of Ireland with its highly acclaimed annual Macnas street spectacle, which takes place in their home town of Galway. Founded in 1986 on the grounds of Galway's University it continues to be Ireland's leading Irish spectacle company, made up of a large ensemble of artists, prop-makers, performers and musicians based in Ireland and abroad. Our images and spectacles are critically acclaimed and of outstanding international artistic merit. Macnas is used to promote Ireland as a leading cultural destination abroad. Underscoring our design and performance is our team of national and international artists, designers and directors led by the Macnas Artistic Director.
