Macochee Joint Ambulance District is an emergency medical services (EMS) provider organized under Ohio Revised Code as a special-purpose joint district with the ability to generate levy funding for operations. The district began operations on January 1, 2012, superseding the former West Liberty EMS, a department of the Village of West Liberty, and comprising the same service area, staff, apparatus and facilities. As of January 2013, Macochee Joint Ambulance District covers approximately 90 square miles of rural territory in Logan and Champaign Counties in west central Ohio, protecting approximately 6,400 residents. The district itself is made up of the Village of West Liberty, Monroe and Liberty Townships (in Logan County), and part of Union Township (Logan County). The district provides EMS protection to parts of the Townships of Harrison and Salem in Champaign County under a contract arrangement.
