The primary role of the State's Attorney's Office is to serve as the chief law enforcement officer and legal advisor for Madison County. It is the responsibility of the State's Attorney to ensure that the laws are faithfully executed in order to maintain the rule of law. With its dedicated staff of more than 50 legal professionals and support staff, the Office has developed divisions and special prosecution units to help protect children, women, the elderly, animals, consumers and merchants from fraud, abuse and neglect. The Office also works to secure grants for special projects aimed at combating prostitution, methamphetamines, auto theft and other criminal violations as trends appear.
