Performing Arts - Madison, Wisconsin, United States
MadCAP is a School of the Arts specializing in musical theatre and striving to inspire & nurture talents in the creative arts. One of the most important things that sets us apart from other programs, theatre companies, and arts organizations in the area is our dedication to the ideas of process oriented education and both a PART and a place for every student. Unlike companies and programs that audition for acceptance and look for a specific appearance from their casts, MadCAP creates a comfortable and safe environment and encourages young people to take creative risks while developing and growing into a strong, well rounded, and confident performer. MadCAP strives to provide access to all families and all students, regardless of income level, race, gender, ethnicity, orientation, or identity. Many of our students tell us that MadCAP is an ideal place to simply BE, without fear or concern. A safe and nurturing environment such as ours allows every student the freedom to grow as artists, musicians, and as engaged people and citizens. MadCAP staff endeavors to meet students where they are and encourage positive and healthy growth as young people grow into who they will become. MadCAP has a strong focus on ENSEMBLE (working together towards a shared artistic goal), NURTURING (encouraging each individual towards the best version of themselves), and HEALTHY COMMUNICATION (both on stage and beyond). Artistic Director Kjerstie Johanson's background as a Music Therapist infuses the atmosphere and staff interactions within the school creating a safe and therapeutic environment for EVERYONE blossom.
