MissionVision: Preserving the unique historical character of downtown Milton, while working to return downtwon Milton's historic commercial district to an active, lively community center with a strong economic base. Mission: To restore and preserve the historic identity of downtown Milton and to enhance social and commerce activity in the downtown by weaving a thread of consistency through community education, historic preservation and renovation, combating deterioration, and promoting beautification; To promote historic downtown Milton as a vital center of commerce and culture reflecting a "people friendly" environment; To enhance civic pride and restore and maintain downtown Milton as the "heart" of the community.Organization OverviewThe Main Street Approach is a community driven, comprehensive methodology used to revitalize older, traditional business districts throughout the United States. It is a common sense way to address the variety of issues and problems that face traditional business districts. The Main Street Approach advocates a return to community self reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of traditional commercial districts based on their unique assets; distinctive architecture, a pedestrian friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community.Main Street Milton was created in 2001 to revitalize, promote and improve economic development within the downtown area. Governed by a board of directors and one paid employee (program manager), Main Street Milton has more than 40 volunteers, and 85 members including a diverse group of businesses and individuals.
