Non-Profit - N/A, N/A, US
Main Street Ministries (MSM), located in the museum district, is a non-profit that mobilizes volunteers to meet the needs of vulnerable men, women and families in our community. Those we serve have experienced poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, or incarceration and need direction to achieve sustainable change. Each year, we help over 5,000 disadvantaged individuals grow to their fullest potential. Because the needs and circumstances of every person varies, our programs and services are multifaceted. Our evidence-based Life Empowerment programs, some requiring a five to six month classroom commitment, address underlying factors that perpetuate poverty and homelessness. Participants discover talents and opportunities while learning care and respect for self and others. As a result, they become servant leaders and break poverty cycles through personal change, education, jobs, and community transformation. To enroll in the development programs, clients must have a strong desire to make changes in their lives and have a dependable living situation with at least some type of stable income. They must be enrolled in a mentorship, case management, or other relational program with a support organization. These organizations include: The Beacon, The Council on Recovery, Covenant House, Houston Area Women's Center, New Hope Housing, Small Steps Nurturing Center, Star of Hope Mission, etc.The Operation ID program helps people obtain the essential documents needed to work, secure housing, register children for school, and achieve other life-sustaining goals. We also provide support through Resource Navigation for basic needs including one-on-one coaching to families in crisis. We connect our participants with the most relevant community resources available to further their steps toward stability and growth. This network of local partners provide housing, employment services, benefits, medical, and more.
