The mission of the Maine Water Environment Association is to promote professional environmental management practices to protect and improve the waters and related environments of the State of Maine.To achieve this we will:* Promote training opportunities for wastewater treatment professionals;* Support a balanced view towards environmental policy;* Promote educational opportunities for the public regarding environmental issues and;* Promote public awareness programs to enhance the image of wastewater treatment professionalsThe Maine Water Environment Association is an association of over 650 members consisting of municipal and industrial operators, consultants, students, and regulatory officials.The MWWCA represents over 95 wastewater treatment plants serving over 125 communities throughout the state. It is governed by an executive Committee consisting of the Chairs of various committees. MWWCA holds two conventions per year focused on providing training for wastewater professionals throughout the state. We maintain close liaison with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (ME DEP) to understand and comment on proposed regulatory changes. We have proposed legislation in some cases to address our concerns. We work actively to educate the public, rate payers, elected officials and other stakeholders on many of the critical environmental issues that affect Maine's water environments.
