Civic & Social Organization - Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal
'MORE PARTICIPATION better health' is a joint collaborative project promoted by GAT - Treatment Activist Group in partnership with other Portuguese patient groups, a consumer organisation and a university research centre, to promote the meaningful involvement of people with and without disease and their representatives in health decision-making in Portugal, both at the political and institutional levels.\\The project takes a participatory action research approach. Drawing on the reality and experience of people with and without disease and their representatives, and using examples of good practice and case studies, a creative space for reflective questioning and consensus-building was established. \\One of the main outcomes of the project is the Charter for Public Participation in Health (www.participacaosaude.com/charter-public-participation-health). The Charter establishes the principles, objectives, guidelines and opportunities for public involvement in health decision-making and was presented in the Portuguese Parliament, to draw the attention of politicians and other key stakeholders to the importance of patients' participation and also to obtain their political commitment for the Charter's legal enforcement. \\Currently, the project has in place a capacity-building program for people with and without disease and their representatives - Capacitar+ (www.participacaosaude.com/capacitar). This program aims at improving the knowledge and skills of participants for a more effective participation in health decision-making.
