The Maize Rage was founded in the mid 1990s, a downtime for the Michigan Basketball program, by University of Michigan students. Since its formation, the Maize Rage has transformed Crisler Arena into one of the most distinctive home court advantages in the Big Ten and NCAA.The Maize Rage is the student cheering section for the University of Michigan Men's Basketball team. The Maize Rage emphasizes spirit and sportsmanship in its support of Men's Basketball. Our 2000+ members strive to provide a vocal presence at Crisler Arena, as well as to promote the University of Michigan Basketball Wolverine program across campus and beyond. The Maize Rage also aims to support a myriad of other varsity sports including women's basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball.Members who wish to have a greater involvement in the Maize Rage are invited to join the Maize Rage Core, a smaller group of students who have a greater hand in the formation, planning, and operations of the Maize Rage.The Maize Rage Core is a smaller group of students who meet weekly to discuss and implement the operations of the Maize Rage. The Maize Rage Core is a student run organization registered with the Michigan Student Assembly (MSA). All members of the Maize Rage are invited to attend meeting of the Maize Rage Core with questions, comments, and concerns about the Maize Rage. Meetings are used to present news ideas, plan road trips, debate the effectiveness of chants, explore new ways to improve the overall basketball experience at Crisler Arena, and many more. The Core serve as liaisons between the Maize Rage and several of the other groups instrumental to the game day atmosphere at Crisler Arena, including the Athletic Department, Dance Team, Cheer Team, Pep Band, and the team itself.
