Performing Arts - Chicago, Illinois, United States
MAKESPACE is a community of creators dedicated to sharing and experiencing art, ideas and curiosity. MAKESPACE was created to be a physical space, a supportive community, and a monthly event where members of the Chicago community can share their creative gifts, be inspired by the works of other creators, engage in discussions and experiences that push us beyond the boundaries of where our jobs and social circles might naturally lead us. MAKESPACE is a community of creators founded by the team at Packback, a Chicago-based Education Startup, as a part of Packback's ongoing mission to cultivate a more curious world. The artists, musicians, poets, philosophers, and comedians who share their work at MAKESPACE are members of the Chicago community whom you might never expect to lead a double life as an incredible artist. We see members of the tech community in Chicago who hustle 80 hour weeks building startups coming out to our monthly events, showcasing new songs and works of art they created in the margins of their weeks. We see makers who create music or artwork full time sharing new and experimental works-in-progress at MAKESPACE that they might not yet be comfortable sharing on a larger stage. The House Rules:Make space for curiosity, not for confining yourself.Make space for all creators to be seen, not just watched.Make space for fearless expression, not perfection.Make space for collaboration, not consumptionMake space for representation of voices, not an echo chamber.
