Malahide R.F.C. was founded in 1922 and is now today a successful community rugby club with ambitious plans for the future. In the early years Malahide R.F.C. fielded two senior teams, playing in Leinster Branch IRFU, League and Cup competitions. Matches were played in Malahide Castle grounds on the site where Malahide Cricket Club presently reside.On the 27th September 1944, an Extraordinary General Meeting was held in the pavilion. It was presided over by Dr. H. Micheal and in attendance were eleven gloomy members. Shortage of members, local support was waning and World War II was taking its toll on membership, the last pass was taken and the ball grounded. The decision was taken to disband the club.Those 22 glorious years had become part of the heritage of Malahide and many of the personalities associated with the early club still had connections with Malahide. So it was that some of these men held a re-union in The Grove Hotel, Malahide. As a result, Malahide R.F.C. was reformed in 1978.Two pitches were rented in Malahide Castle grounds as Lord Talbot had bequeathed the Castle and demesne to the Irish Government. In 1989 the club purchased their own land on the Back Road, opposite Malahide Castle. In March 1992 the clubhouse and pitch were officially opened.Currently Malahide R.F.C. field 3 senior teams in various Leinster Branch IRFU competitions up to Leinster League Division 3. At youth level teams are fielded at Under 14 and 17 in Dublin Metropolitan Leagues and mini level teams are fielded at, Under 8, 9, 10 and 12; with the club also competing in Dublin Metropolitan competitions.In 2005 Malahide R.F.C opened a new 13,500 sq foot clubhouse and two state of the art rugby pitches at Estuary Road, Malahide. The new clubhouse and grounds are of the highest quality and comprise all the necessary facilities for a modern rugby club. The club has recently appointed Richard Evans as Head Coach for the 2010-11 season.
