Founded in 1877, we are one of the oldest societies in South East Asia, formed as a platform for the study and discussion of the Affairs, Natural History, Heritage, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, the Republic of Singapore, Brunei Darussalam. We have enjoyed an esteemed patronage and membership since our inception, and count among them the pioneers, movers and shakers of the regions, including; Sir Frank Swettenham, Sir Malcolm Watson, Tun Abdul Razak Dato' Hussein, Tun Hussein Onn, R E Holttum, Henry Ridley, to mention a few. Our principal publication is the Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (JMBRAS). In addition to JMBRAS, also have published numerous pioneer articles and books on a wide variety of subjects — Culture, History, Literature, Anthropology, Archaeology, Botany, Zoology and a score of other headings, from many distinguished contributors.We are an independent organisation and a registered charity.
