MALIA (mahl-yah) is all about getting on the water—either as cohesive teams in our 10- and 20-paddler dragon boats, or in our individual outrigger canoes—and propelling ourselves forward, FAST. We're a quirky, inclusive, and competitive bunch, blessed to have the waters of Lake Champlain and its magnificent views of the Adirondacks as our playground! We operate out of the Community Sailing Center (CSC) and are stoked for our first season in the fantastic new building on the Burlington waterfront. We love being a CSC partner because we share a passion for getting as many people as possible out on the water. Our 2018 goal is to get 200 new people paddling, discovering dragon boat and the euphoria that it can bring! Our numbers include paddlers from various disciplines (kayak, SUP, outrigger canoe, marathon canoe) along with folks who didn't couldn't tell you the difference between a paddle and an oar, or a bow and a stern. (Some of us still can't.) Our coaches have either paddled for top Canadian teams or Team USA, coached national teams—or both! We compete at the local, regional, and international levels—in 2018, we'll be staying pretty local (Montreal) though, as we have our sights set on Trinidad and Tobago in 2019. We hope you'll join us!
