Manzi Willy Ngarambe was born on April 16, 1985 in Numbi, Democratic Republic of the Congo and lived in a family of 11. His mother raised Manzi and his siblings on a farm, while his father worked as a miner. At the young age of nine, the region was rocked into conflict when neighbouring Rwanda broke into civil war. The two major ethnic groups, Hutus and Tutsis, were at odds, resulting in the genocide of 800,000 Tutsis within a 100-day period. This conflict spilled into the Congo and Manzi's family was rounded up to be killed.Manzi miraculously escaped but it was the last time he would ever see his family. His next few years were filled with near-death experiences as the conflict chased him across East Africa. Manzi was also a survivor of the Mudende and Nkamira Refugee Camp Massacres, which killed an uncountable thousands of people.Eventually making his way to Canada, Manzi shares his story in the hopes that his home country will begin on the path of reconciliation. Manzi is the Founder and Executive Director of Heroes of Peace, and an ambassador for One Young World.From the TEDx to Global Shapers, Manzi Willy is a renown storyteller and motivational speaker.
