Marianne`s Dog Food Bank started as an informal rescue, a Facebook group, 3 years ago initiated by Danish animal activist Marianne Sondergaard. At the moment we are a team of 9 people both from Denmark and Bosnia, each with special tasks and each invaluable to the cause, and a group counting over 3500 members from all around the world. The group was founded with the goal to provide food for stray animals in Bosnia, but it`s growth and successfully implemented projects made it very relevant in the rescue world in Bosnia. In the first phase of our work we provided food for a local public shelter in Tuzla with 600 dogs living there, eating only chicken claws before we started our work. We have set up a virtual adoption program and upon securing the network and set up of a sustainable system; the shelter administration was able to keep the project alive until today. Seeing so many overcrowded shelters and dogs living on the edge of existence, we decided to create somewhat different "half way house". Thanks to an anonymous, generous donation, 2 years ago we built our first mini shelter "Dawn`s Nest", named after a late fellow rescuer. We have successfully carried out several important projects in the past. Our food donations and volunteers have fed thousands of animals on the streets in the past 3 years; we have homed over 200 dogs abroad, and with professional veterinary help cured a countless number of injured dogs and cats. Although our work solely depends on donations, what makes our cause special is the fact that we are 100% committed - we keep close contact with all our sponsors, always keeping them up to date on our activities and on the individual dogs' stories. After already several years of working to improve animal welfare in Bosnia, and realizing we are all here for the long run, as natural way of strengthening our work, we became officially registered charity in Denmark in March 2015. As soon we will become officially registered in Bosnia as well.
