In 1989, the family of the company's owner, Stan Collins, established a mental health rehabilitation facility in New Orleans, Louisiana. During this time, the family members also became healthcare consultants for other companies. The facility remained open until Hurricane Katrina occurred in 2005, and the effects from the storm caused them to close their doors. Though the family had to cope with the devastation of losing not only their homes as well as a business, their passion for helping others lingered. So the members of the family continued to offer healthcare consulting services, helping to establish seven companies and helping four companies remain in compliance with state and federal regulations. These companies include mental health facilities, respite PCA service organizations, and home health care organizations. Stan Collins, while performing healthcare consulting tasks along with his family, remained employed in state, federal, non-profit, and NGRI establishments. He has counseled mental health, disabled, NGRI, and sexually violent predator populations for over 25 years. He has performed extensive quality assurance duties as well for healthcare organizations in Louisiana, South Carolina, and Nevada. Ten years after Hurricane Katrina, and a few years after his parents retired, Mr. Collins decided to continue his family's tradition. As a result, Marigold Sunset Combined Healthcare Services was created.
