Maritime - Manama, Capital Governorate, Bahrain
For 25 years, the US Maritime Liaison Office (MARLO) Bahrain has facilitated the exchange of information between the US Navy, the 25-Member Nation Combined Maritime Forces, and maritime interests in US Central Command's area of responsibility. Our liaisons travel regularly throughout the Gulf & East Africa to foster communication, stay apprised of changes in local port infrastructure and management, proactively address concerns and questions. They remain, first and foremost, an active advocate for commercial mariners, and dedicated to providing accurate and timely information on safety of shipping and marine navigation. HISTORY: A quarter century ago, MARLO was created (during the Iran-Iraq "Tanker Wars") to promote cooperation between the U.S. Navy and maritime interests. Since then, MARLO has diversified its offerings and broadened its influence worldwide. These days, MARLO sister units (known as Maritime Liaison Units, or simply MARLUs) operate in Naples, Miami, Japan, Singapore and points between. Yet despite the many changes, our mission remains steadfast—to serve as a conduit of information to (and from) the maritime industry.
