Nonprofit Organization Management - Aspen, Colorado, United States
The mission of the Marshall Direct Fund is to provide education and economic opportunities to youth and young women in conflict countries to foster a more peaceful and prosperous world. We work to enable access to primary and vocational education and assists in the creation of jobs. We currently provide economic opportunities and alternative livelihoods in Pakistan that lead to diplomacy and peace. According to the United Nations, 74% of the population in Pakistan lives below $2 per day and faces instability and threat from a powerful extremist minority. In addition to impoverished conditions, the country faces a serious educational crisis in which 25 million school age children are out of school. We have provided thousands of scholarships for impoverished youth that are at high risk for recruitment into extremist organizations and have over 1,000 women graduating from our vocational training program annually. We also facilitate a modern day pen pal program between youth in Pakistan and the US so they can engage in meaningful dialogue over the course of 6 months, exchanging letters, photos, videos and exploring subjects of culture, diversity, leadership and peace.
