Architecture & Planning - Oldeberkoop, Friesland, Netherlands
In 2002 the renown Dutch architect Maarten van der Breggen won a competition to build 24 extensible durable starter homes utilising the new sustainable brand: MASKERADE. The ideas from this competition on lifelong durability, the use of renewable raw materials and the customized system, in 2005, have led to MASKERADE become its own independent brand and organisation, with a mission to revolutionise the building industry in order to reduce its impact on the environment. In this capacity in the period from 2005 onwards multiple housing projects, two schools and an office were realized using the Maskerade construction method. Maskerade was founded with the purpose of gaining tenders to implement a very cost-efficient and highly sustainable building method that is Maskerade. It does so in close collaboration with various co-operatives. Maskerade develops buildings without a fixed contractor or architect.
