Massey University's Bachelor of Retail and Business Management (BRBM) is New Zealand's only retail degree, and is only one of two undergraduate retail programmes offered in the Asia-Pacific region. The programme was successfully launched in February 2015, having been developed in partnership with the retail industry. The BRBM is available to study on a full-time or part-time basis, on Massey's Albany (Auckland) campus, or via Distance Learning.The BRBM is housed within Massey's University's Centre for Advanced Retail Studies (CARS), New Zealand's only dedicated ‘centre of excellence' for retail research, education and scholarship. CARS is also the largest centre of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Overseeing the programme is a subject-specific advisory board which ensures the programme is relevant, fit for purpose, and is up to date with industry developments. The programme is taught by internationally recognised academics, and combines broad-business business skills with retail-specific expertise. In addition, students also benefit from field visits, company-based projects, and guest presentations delivered by CEOs and General Managers of some of New Zealand's most well-known and respected retailers. Students learn best-practice approaches for retail in New Zealand and abroad, in both physical and virtual environments; they also gain knowledge of retail-related disciplines such as marketing, logistics and supply chain management and retail design, combined with an understanding of the evolution of technology and retail environments within the industry.
