Max Gruver died at LSU from an alleged hazing event at the Phi Delta Theta house on September 14th, 2017. Max was an avid writer, publishing over 360 articles while in high school. His parents found a journal shortly after Max died where he wrote "God works in funny ways. He does bad things sometimes because in the end they are good. Something bad may happen to you, but it may happen because it will make you better. He does bad to ultimately create good." This passage gave Max's parents, Stephen and Rae Ann Gruver, the strength and direction to start the Max Gruver Foundation to create awareness, education, policy and laws to end hazing. The foundation creates change and awareness through educational seminars and presentations at high schools, universities and meetings with fraternity and sorority leadership nationally. The foundation also works with state and federal law makers creating bills and laws on transparency, hazing as a felony, education on hazing, failure to assist individuals in need, and other laws to put an end to hazing. Drugs and alcohol are often used in hazing events are also part of their education. The foundation has sent over 35,000 wrist bands to schools and universities, and have conducted several educational seminars at high schools, sororities, fraternities and universities. They have helped the state of Louisiana create a felony hazing law this year known as the Max Gruver Act. They have also funded a scholarship in honor of Max at his high school, Blessed Trinity. The Gruvers are working with several national organizations in their fight to end hazing. They are a non-profit and can use your support.
