mclabs private limited was spun-off of the Broadband Communication System Project that was being run under the aegis of National Center of Excellence in Technology for Internal Security (NCETIS) at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay). The goal of the Broadband Communication project was to protoype a state-of-the-art communication system which could be demonstrated to various Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) agencies in India. The project team started with understanding of the current ecosystem of communication equipment used by various PPDR agencies. This allowed the team to understand the limitations and hence make an informed decision while designing the prototype for the new system. It was thus decided to base the new communication system on the Public Safety – LTE (PS-LTE) specifications of 3GPP(TM) consortium. The team also participated in ETSI's 3rd and 4th MCX Plugtest Event to test and verify the interoperability of developed prototype with other vendors working in this field.Having presented the working prototype of Mission Critical Push-To-Talk (MCPTT) system to various PPDR agencies, it was decided to start a new venture to transition the working prototype into a product. To that end, the core team of Broadband Communication System Project has joined hands together and has started as "mclabs private limited".
