Memento's beginnings are rooted in bringing comfort to ourselves and family members in times of loss. Those early collaborations between Chris and Shelley Harvan took the form of hand-made keepsake boxes that combined drawings, prints, and assemblages of day-to-day items from the life being celebrated. This evolved to include custom urns for people and pets. The level of professional and personal satisfaction from helping people grieve has been a key indicator that we were ready to commit to making Memento an official business venture in 2012. Our research into the funeral industry revealed an opportunity for a win, win, win: • Bereaved family members deserve to have a contemporary alternative in urns that they may consider keeping in their homes as an object of art and remembrance at a price point that is not unreasonable. • Funeral directors who offer Memento's products find that customers who think or say a product is "cool" or "neat" are less likely to make price the most powerful denominator in a cremation urn. • Memento provides the above in a sustainable way that benefits all of our suppliers, venders, distributors, funeral directors and end-users without being overly extractive of people and natural resources. Our guiding principle for all actions and decisions to make those wins happen is hands + heART There are dual meanings for both components of this mantra. "hands" speaks to taking care of the people involved in every part of the process of designing, engineering, fabricating, marketing, selling, and delivering products that invite touch. "heART" forces us to focus on bringing beauty and reverence back to remembrance products for the end user. Memento makes a difference in individual experiences of saying goodbye. With sketchbooks full of great product concepts and our hearts full of determination we are bringing a fresh take on remembrance to an industry that is in need of inspiration.
