Nonprofit Organization Management - Chicago, Illinois, United States
Memory Rock Chicago was created in 2006 by Steve Monroe, Chicago author and commercial real estate consultant. With no prior connection to the disease, Monroe witnessed the devastating toll it took on his colleague as she lost her father to Alzheimer's, and then cared for her mother who was diagnosed shortly thereafter. This experience compelled him to take action. He organized a committee of friends to host a fundraiser, and quickly learned many of them were also impacted by the disease. The event, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016, has raised nearly $400,000 for the Alzheimer's Association since its inception. The annual rock concert benefit is held at Joe's Bar on Weed St., featuring local Chicago bands. Memory Rock continues to grow thanks to the overwhelming support of dedicated committee members and generous sponsors.
