MENTU is a reading project introducedin April, 2016. MENTU argues that the passion to reading for any individual is fostered through the right book and the right mentor.Reading fosters perspective, logical reasoning, knowledge, and information navigation. These elements lead to personal growth, and allows one to see professional and personal opportunities that the less well read cannot. The benefits are endless. There are even articles claiming that reading is the key factor to most successful people.Yet, reading as fun and leisure or a sincere desire for reading seems to be an ancient pursuit, if not lost completely.The lack of love for reading stems from our current social constraints. For middle to high school students, strict curriculums prohibit book selection freedom and confuses authoritative assignments with reading, leading students to "hate" reading. For adults, it could be the perception that there is a lack of time, or don't know where to start.MENTU strives to bring back the love of reading to everyone. Our mentees, through MENTU, have regained their desire and discovered that reading truly empowers them, hence, "read to win."
