Over 15 million artisanal and small-scale gold miners (ASGM) in developing countries eke out a meager living—and have no alternative to using toxic mercury as part of their gold-extraction process. Mercury is an extremely toxic substance that irreparably poisons, causing neurological disorders, birth defects, among many other illnesses. As an environmental contaminant, it is nearly impossible to remove. The contamination only continues its destructive path as it flows downstream through rivers, into the ocean, and into the fish that we eat. The tragedy that befalls these miners and their families, as well as the long-term damage that our planet is enduring, must be eliminated. The Mercury Free Mining project was founded to help find a solution to this this ever-growing problem. It is our mission to help create technology that will offer artisanal small-scale miners an alternative to using mercury, ending the cycle of destruction it has wrought on the lives of millions. It is our goal not only to enable these miners to safely extract gold as efficiently as with the traditional mercury method, but to surpass to surpass the efficiency to the point that the practice of using mercury gets effectively put out of business.Through supporting the Mercury Free Mining we will effectively eliminate mercury's toxic destruction that is currently plaguing the global environment.
