Fund-raising - Akron, Ohio, United States
The Meredith A. Cowden Foundation raises funding for research and awareness of the blood cancers, as well as Graft vs. Host Disease (GvHD), a condition that is a complication of a bone marrow transplant. In most cases, GvHD becomes a chronic condition but can be fatal if not controlled properly. Through our events, we have raised funds for leukemia researchers who work to discover new and effective ways to combat the disease. We are proud to sponsor the National GvHD Symposium where the best and brightest research doctors present their research and new and more effective ways to treat GvHD.In addition, we provide grants for the special needs of patients and families battling a blood cancer. We contribute to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) with funding for research associated with treatment of the blood cancers. Through the generosity of our friends and community, the Meredith A. Cowden Foundation has been able to donate over $500,000 to date to help with the fight against GvHD.Unfortunately, too many of us have been touched by blood cancer through family, friends, colleagues and/or acquaintances who have faced the disease. The Foundation works every day to support and encourage those who continue to fight this battle, to recognize the champions who have battled this disease and to honor the memory of those who are no longer with us."Always do right – this will gratify some and astonish the rest." Mark TwainWith the help of many, we will continue to work on elevating the awareness of, and providing education and research for, the treatment of leukemia and Graft vs. Host Disease. Gerald W.
