Merlin Sports Cars first came into being in 1980 and various models were manufactured up to 1998 in Essex.During this period, Merlin was a Ford based, hand-built sports car available from the factory or in form of kits.In May 2017, the company was purchased as a beneficial partner to Mibrid, a privately held company specialising in the manufacture of low-cost electric vehicles.Under the Directorship of Andrew Imms Merlin Sports Cars will operate from Mibrid's facility, The Old Gym Works, in Lincolnshire. From this location, Merlin Sports Cars will resume production of the vehicle and also offer service and support to current and future owners.The short term aim is to produce 3 ‘classic' Merlins powered by Ford Zetec engines before the end of 2017.In the long term the team are working on an all new model for 2018.
