Sports - West Mersea, England, United Kingdom
Mersea Island Rugby is at the heart of the local community, having been founded in 1989 by islanders playing with a rugby ball on the Glebe, which was to become the club's home. As runners-up for the best club in Eastern Counties last season (2018/19), the club is built on the foundations of local support and sponsorship. A wide selection of teams welcome everyone, whether parents bringing youngsters along, adults new to the game or seasoned veterans. We value the work of our volunteers and accredited coaches, many of them former Mersea Island players. Our 1st team plays in Eastern Counties 1, and younger players enjoy competing in matches, festivals and on tour in the UK and overseas. The club has also been providing mentors for pupils at Mersea Island School in their Believe & Achieve programme. In partnership with the headmistress, we use the core values of rugby to help student development and send young Islanders off to secondary school believing in themselves, standing tall in their talent and ready to make the very best of this next, crucial, chapter in their lives.
