Merseyside Search and Rescue (MerseysideSAR) or (MerSAR) are a group of trained volunteers who are on call 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. The team frequently undertake training exercises, are well trained and well equipped; and regularly assist Merseyside Police and other statutory emergency services. When we are called out the police will call our duty operations manager who activates the team using the call out management and priority messaging system SARCALL.We are mainly called out to assist in the search for missing and/or vulnerable people across the varied terrain of MerseysideMerseyside spans 249 square miles (645 square kilometres) of land which border Lancashire (to the north-east), Greater Manchester (to the east), Cheshire (to the south and south-east) and the Irish Sea to the west. North Wales is across the Dee Estuary. There is a mix of high density urban areas, suburbs, semi-rural and rural locations in Merseyside, but overwhelmingly the land use is urban. Merseyside also has a combination of flood plains, Forests, fields, Country Parks, Rivers and Lakes, for which the team frequently train to deal with and work in or around. Merseyside has a population of around 1.38million.The Teams Incident Control Unit / 4×4 Support vehicle (donated by Jaguar / Land Rover Halewood Liverpool), is currently based at Merseyside Police HQ in Liverpool city centre for rapid deployment. Members are spread across the whole of Merseyside, and we are always seeking new members. We are made up entirely of volunteers, and rely solely on fundraising and donations to be able to continue this valuable resource.
