MetroMining was founded in Rotterdam with the aim to convert waste streams from the city into valuable materials for the local manufacturing industry. This adds value for the city, inhabitants and creates opportunities for entrepreneurs.The mission is to utilise local available organic waste streams from metropolitan regions for the production of high-end raw materials and products. These materials add and promote innovation, clean technology, smarter cities & ports, employment and a cleaner living environment.MetroMining collects and converts organic (solid and fluid) with a innovative bio-digester in combination with a waste-water facility, the setup is energised and driven by a gas-turbine, windmill and photovoltaic energy. The proces is a modular mobile setup for Metropolitan areas and existing industries which includes a bio-digester, wastewater facility and renewable energy production. The chosen processing technique is developed by MetroMining in corporation with a variety of external parties. The processing facility demonstrates the commercial viability as well as the technical capacity.Approach The location of the installation is the SuGu Club in the Fruitport of Rotterdam, called M4H. The organic waste streams are residues from the fruit import and export companies in close vicinity of the location in Rotterdam. By using short communication lines, low overhead and efficient transport MetroMining is capable of working cheaper than current suppliers. Collecting waste will be done with electrical and local transport and finally with a local infrastructure will distribute utilities to customers.
