The official Model UN Society of Maharani Gayatri Devi Girl's School, Jaipur, India."Embracing diversity through cultural diplomacy"The notion of Cultural Diplomacy explains that embracing diversity is a vital step in understanding world politics in our society. Our cultures are the culmination of our different histories and it is through the resilience of our differences and the acceptance of unique cultures that we, as global citizens, can forge diplomatic relations in volatile times.This is an effort in bringing intellectuals together in hope of fostering an attitude of peace through understanding and acceptance. Despite the quirks of our cultures, an important part of Cultural Diplomacy is recognizing that some cultural values transcend boundaries: our desire to pass on our heritage, language and history to future generations, and our sustained fear of our culture, whatever it may be, disappearing over time. We live in a globalized world where it is not only possible to instantly communicate with people who live half way across the world, but also where the ever increasing interdependence makes an event in one country have repercussions everywhere. While it is true that globalization has brought the world closer together, this increased interconnection has not always translated into the broader understanding of the word. It is for this very reason that it is important that we promote global engagement. Through broadening our understanding of each other, we are able to realise that diplomacy is not merely the duty of statesmen, but embracing our diversity through our cultural differences is the responsibility of each one of us.MGD MUN aims not only to provide a stimulating simulation but also a platform where young people from different backgrounds can engage in global dialogue amongst people from different backgrounds that share common goals and thus practice Cultural Diplomacy. In a hope to therefore continue to manifest this perspective through which education and experience, will allow for participants to recognise the importance of preserving not only their own cultures, but also the cultures of faraway nations.After three days of exciting debate a delegate will not leave the conference knowing all the answers to the problems of the international system, but he or she will depart asking the right questions. A simulation does not have the ability to solve any of the predicaments humanity faces today; however, it can bring us closer together.
