The Michigan Business Club (MBC) is a student-run organization dedicated to introducing members of the University of Michigan community to the world of business. Our aim, in specific, is to give young students hands-on experience of real world business situations, teach them about various new industries within business and introduce them to networking through a variety of events and activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, guest speaker events, industry specific workshops, case study competitions and club-wide social events. In the Fall of 2015, MBC also introduced its new mentorship program, where the MBC executive board works with interested club members to lend advice, improve their resume and aid in the application process to the Ross School of Business or summer internships. In order to accomplish these main goals of education, networking and growth, MBC holds weekly meetings focused on educating its members through a variety of different presentations and activities. Each meeting, the board presents a brief market update to show the relationship between recent news and changes in the market—tying real life situations back to the world of business. After this brief overview, the board will dive into one specific topic or industry of business each week. Generally, these industries are presented briefly and discussed by a board member with experience in the field. Afterward, the members receive the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through an interactive activity. These activities include workshops, presentations, case competitions and games.Overall, MBC is aimed at educating young University of Michigan students with an interest in business. Since business is many times a confusing and broad topic for students entering the field of study, MBC exists on campus to break ‘business' down into manageable topics of discussion and learning.
