The Michigan Pond Hockey Sports Charities (MPHSC) provide families with financial assistance for their children to participate in youth athletic programs. Many school districts are forced to adopt a "pay to participate" model for school athletics programs. Families that are under a financial hardship can apply for a MPHSC scholarship, which will pay that child's participation fee or needed equipment. The support from the MPHSC will encourage and promote the health and well-being of children through youth athletics.The primary fundraising event for the MPHSC is the annual Michigan Pond Hockey Classic (MPHC). The MPHC is the largest 4 on 4 pond hockey tournament in lower Michigan. The event is held in Whitmore Lake, at Mac's Marina on Main Street. On average, the tournament provides 18-20 groomed rinks for approximately 800 registered players, and over 5000 spectators throughout the event.
