The Midland Conservation District was established on June 27th, 1950 as one of Michigan's 75 Conservation Districts. Conservation Districts are local units of governments that help to address natural resource issues on a local level. The Midland Conservation District works to provide leadership in responsible resource conservation practices to the community for present and future generations.The purpose of the Midland Conservation District is to educate and work with the community and partners to develop and carry out conservation programs to reduce erosion, protect water quality, and encourage wise land management. The District aims to:-Provide technical assistance and information to producers and provide conservation education for community with cooperating agencies-Provide communication and outreach to the Midland County community-Create and secure sustainable funding for programs for the Midland County community -Provide affordable reforestation tree sales for the Midland County community -Improve the quality of water, soil and air in Midland County through the implementation of conservation practices -Increase board development and volunteer involvement District programs in Midland County include the Annual Reforestation Tree Sale, the Tomlinson Barn Education Center, education and outreach, technical assistance to the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, free site visits for landowners, and partnering with state programs such as HAP (Hunting Access Program) and MAEAP (Michigan Agricultural Environmental Assurance Program).The Midland Conservation District strives to serve the Midland County community by providing a variety of resources, programs, information and educational opportunities.
