The Midwives Association of Zambia (MAZ) is the professional and voluntary organisation for all midwives in Zambia: Registered-Nurse Midwives (RN/M), Enrolled-Nurse-Midwives (EN/M) and certified midwives (CM). It is a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), an accredited non-governmental organisation representing midwives worldwide to achieve common goals in the care of mothers and newborns. The MAZ is also affiliated with the Confederation of African Midwives Associations (CONAMA), a regional body comprising of African midwives' associations. Vision: An empowered midwifery profession that is dedicated to the provision of quality health care services to prevent maternal and neonatal deaths so as to promote safe motherhood in ZambiaMission: The mission of MAZ is to promote the provision of quality and evidence-based midwifery practice for women, neonates, children and men at all levels of health care.The objectives for MAZ:1. Promote improvement of lives for women, children and men through the provision of quality midwifery and other reproductive health services;2. Promote the identity of midwives and midwifery professional practice through effective communication by means of influencing policy legislation and public image building.3. Promote best midwifery practices through research in maternal, neonatal and child health services. 4. Provide leadership and direction in maintaining professionalism at all levels of care.5. Create and Maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders and the community.6. Uphold the National and International recognized midwifery competencies, role and sphere of practice.7. Promote education of midwives and facilitate continuous professional development by providing varied educational opportunities.
