Leisure, Travel & Tourism - Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
About 3 years ago we started our explorations in Kuala Lumpur. As passionate and recreational cyclists we discovered that Kuala Lumpur undergoes a process of accelerated urban development (file traffic, concrete towers and stifling pollution). We have also experienced that this process takes place especially at the surface. There is a much more traditional Kuala Lumpur, which is fading into the background.Together with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia we have taken the initiative to rediscover the authentic Kuala Lumpur on bike. Cycling KL helped us mapping an extensive network of bike-friendly streets and alleys. We discovered more and more a "hidden world", a world unknown for many. A world where the Bumiputras, the Malaysian people, still have their traditional live.Kuala Lumpur has colorful sights, it is a melting pot is of scents of the local markets or the intriguing lives of the local population. And therefore it is one of world's most fascinating cities. Our mission is to share these discoveries with others!MikeBikes seeks the so-called 'ethical business''. We want MikeBikes' profits to flow back to the locals. How? By enabling the local people in our activities. We work together with local guides, local restaurants and we will even collaborate with local bicycle maintenance companies. Our ultimate goal is to provide children of socially disadvantaged families a second hand bicycle, that they must maintain. Free workshops given by Bike Kitchen KL will teach them how to do so.In this way youth gets familiar with the bike as a means of transport and meanwhile they increase their action radius.Eventually, the increase of this environmentally friendly, green way of transport will contribute to a cleaner and more livable area in Kuala Lumpur.Feel free to contact us for cooperation.
