Mikoishi was an award-winning game development studio and publisher headquartered in Singapore with regional offices in Korea and Japan that operated from 2001 – 2011. Mikoishi origins were in the development and operation of multiplayer games for mobile phones. From 2001 – 2006 Mikoishi developed over a dozen titles that it operated in over 50 countries. Mikoishi pioneered social and multiplayer gaming on mobile handsets and, in partnership with some of the world's largest network operators and entertainment houses - implemented forerunner pay-per-play, token and episodic billing models for mobile entertainment over cellular networks. 2007 saw Mikoishi move into online web games developing advanced casual online games built on proprietary, peer-2-peer network topology called Theatre, a state-of-the-art, cloud-based network middleware and game operating platform. Theatre enabled multi-platform and cross-platform playability coupled with online player communities, tournament play, prize play and game item purchase and trading.
