The Militia Trust was established in 1999 with the express intention of facilitating the introduction of Military Personnel being retrenched or rationalized from the South African National Defence Force into the broader civil society.In 2003 the organization re-structured as a Civic Support Organization, which has included work with Community Police Fora, and the provision of assistance to communities or institutions during times of crisis, violence, natural disasters and displacement. Special focus has been in communities in areas deemed to be "Hot Spots" for Xenophobic violence.Militia is an executive Committee member of the DHA (Department of Home Affairs) Stakeholders for City of Joburg and a Provincial Steering Committee Member at DHA stakeholders. Militia assists with the verification/training related to Migrant and Refugee documentation.The Militia Youth Cadet Corps also plays an important role in advocating the DHA campaigns for ID book at age 16 years at schools.Militia works closely with Local Government Structures around South Africa, as well as the South African Police Service. Our core values are to maintain a strong focus on volunteerism, patriotism and a sense of civic duty. Our aim is to promote unity, peace and community cohesion.
