Milpark Hyperbaric Medicine Centre, based at Netcare Milpark Hospital in Parktown West, Johannesburg is regarded as the premier hyperbaric facility in South Africa.Established more than 15 years ago, it was founded by Daniel Gericke, a former Clearance Diving Instructor in the South African Navy and hyperbaric technician with many years' experience treating patients, is now based in Toronto, Canada.Together, he and Dr Mark Botha, a medical doctor and hyperbaric physician, with many years' experience in the field, co-founded the unit which opened in November 2005.At the time, it was the first and only hospital-based hyperbaric facility in the Greater Johannesburg area. The establishment of Milpark Hyperbaric Medicine Centre was preceded by the Hyperbaric Medicine Centre and Wound Care Centre at Netcare St Augustine's Hospital. This was the first hyperbaric centre of its kind in a private hospital in the country equipped with a 10-man multi-place chamber. Daniel Gericke, with the support of Netcare Hospital Group, hospital management team and fellow shareholders, launched the Centre in 1999.Today, Milpark Hyperbaric Medicine Centre, which is one of the busiest units in the country and is on call 24/7 for medical and diving emergencies, is equipped with three mono-place chambers, the newest of which is a Sechrist Chamber, imported from the United States and installed in 2019.The dedicated medical team at the Centre comprises: Dr Mark Botha, co-founder, and medical director; Riedwaan Dass, Senior Hyperbaric Operator and Foundation Director; and Lynne Warder, Chamber Operator.Sincere gratitude is extended to Dr Jack Shevel (Founding Member and former CEO of Netcare Hospital Group); Ian Goble (former Regional Coastal Manager for Netcare) and Andre Carstens (former Netcare National Property Director) and Netcare Hospital Group as a whole, for believing in us and supporting our vision `Save a Life, Save a Limb' which has enabled us to make a profound difference
