Mind Yourself is dedicated to improving the physical and mental health of the London Irish community. We promote happy and healthy living for any Irish person living in London. We are particularly concerned with supporting people who feel marginalised due to their world views or life experiences, including the LGBT community; traveller communities; adult survivors of institutional childhood abuse; those of mixed heritage; non-denominational groups. Contact us at: The Old Fire Station, 84 Mayton Street, London N7 6QT Tel: 020 7697 4753 What we do: We support Irish people in London who want to improve or maintain their physical or mental health. We do this by providing health related one-one support [information, advice and advocacy], accompaniment to health related appointments and group activities. You can refer yourself or you can refer a friend, family member or a client if you are professional. If you referring someone else, we ask that you have their consent to do so. Our History: Mind Yourself arose directly from the work of the London Irish Women's Centre. LIWC was founded in 1983 and secured its own premises in Stoke Newington in 1984 with the help of a grant from the GLC. For the next 28 years it delivered a range of programmes and services to women of Irish birth and descent including Irish Travellers. A defining ethos of LIWC was advocating for equality for women in all aspects of their lives. In 2011 the Trustees undertook a strategic review of the organisation in the context of the changing demographics of the Irish community, and the new political and financial climate. Following this review, which included an assessment of the unmet need in the Irish community, the Trustees decided to redirect the organisation. The new direction included renaming the organisation Mind Yourself, including men as beneficiaries of the work, and focussing the work on reducing health inequalities in the Irish community.
