Mini Mermaid Running Club and Young Tritons UK (est 2015) work with girls and boys, ages 7-11, to understand and manage their internal dialogues; strengthen their belief in their worth, value and ability to connect and impact their communities; and experience the powerful impact of movement on positive mental, physical and emotional health. The programmes tackle key issues facing young people across the UK today, including low self-esteem, fear of failure and lack of physical activity. The programmes explore the intersection of those issues and empower children to utilise their mental, emotional and physical strength to manage them. More than 1,000 children have participated in more than 100 programmes in five cities across the UK. Mini Mermaids see an increase in confidence, resilience and adoption of movement that impacts all aspects of their lives. Young Tritons learn the value of conversations and listening to each other, while experiencing a different type of teamwork, built on support rather than competition. The programmes, run over four years, comprise two elements: A 6-8 week curriculum, hosted in schools and community centres and participation in 5km challenge, with a post challenge celebration of their achievements. In the UK, 90 percent of our programmes are free or heavily subsidised due to funding and grants. Organisations from which we've received funding include The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, The VINCI UK Foundation, The Arsenal Foundation, Tesco's Groundworks, Leeds Community Foundation, and Awards for All. In addition we have generous club and individual sponsors. For information on starting, sponsoring or volunteering with a programme, please contact us at info@minimermaiduk.com.
