Writing & Editing - Alton, Illinois, United States
In view of the Mighty Mississippi River in Alton, IL we work daily creating our ware. Our pottery is durable and intended for everyday use. Our ware is all dishwasher, microwave, oven and food safe. We work out of our brick and mortar store, which also houses our working studio. The potters wheel and slab building are the primary methods we use to create in stoneware clay. Our most popular items are mugs, logoed mugs, dinnerware and baking dishes. Focusing on durable functional forms for everyday use, we use brightly colored glazes to decorate our pots in a variety of patterns. Our name, our colors, and patterns are inspired by our proximity to the Mississippi River. We love the handmade nature of our pottery and the uniqueness of each piece. We strive to best please our enthusiastic and loving customer base by giving them excellent personalized customer service and quality ware. We also try to enrich our customer experience with education on our process and working methods. Our customers can watch us at work, ask questions, and receive a free tour of our studio on request. We offer a variety of artwork and handmade, or creative merchandise to our customers in addition to our pottery. The majority of our sales are right in our shop, although we travel and participate in Fine Art Fairs throughout the St. Louis Region. Mississippi Mud Pottery was created in 1983 by Ken and Brenda Barnett in Alton IL. Ken and Brenda continued to operate Mississippi Mud Pottery until 2006, when they retired.
