Established in 2007, the MIT Clean Energy Prize is a student-run competition dedicated to funding and developing nascent businesses in the field of alternative energy. The prize is a yearlong competition beginning in the fall with the selection of semi-finalists and assignment of mentors, and culminating in a finalist pitch competition in the spring. Total prize money in 2017 exceeded $250,000
