John & Cheryl Whyte started Mitchell Service Centre in 1994 in a small workshop at the rear of a service station. After a number of years it became apparent that they had outgrown the current site & to continue servicing their customers efficiently they would have to expand. The bullet was bitten & they moved to their current site in 2001.In February 2002 they were approached by a mechanic from a local dealership. He had a mature aged 1st year apprentice that he felt had talents which would be wasted in a dealership environment. After an interview, Michael Plasto was employed as a first year apprentice. After many years on the floor, Michael is now the service manager & an integral part of the growing business.John has been repairing Canberra vehicles for over 30 years and is passionate about his industry, having spent time on the boards of fair trading and the ACT Motor Traders Association, as well as spending weekends "Pit Crewing" for local race teams.
