Our Student-Run Captive Insurance Company was born from our intent to equip students for success. The need for outstanding and experienced graduates in the Risk Management and Insurance field is apparent. Building an incredible experiential opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience will set the industry and our students up for success. The Lacy School of Business established a student-run insurance company with coverages starting in 2017.Hands-on experience in the Captive Insurance Company means taking on real risks and real underwriting, while also gaining insight into starting and running a business. From creating and updating insurance financial reports to underwriting fine arts, our first phase of coverage offerings will provide an extensive baseline from which students can learn. Phases two and three will further our capabilities by expanding the business to lines of insurance that could develop into real life consumer products. This will include the opportunity to:Underwrite real loss exposuresImplement loss control techniquesAnalyze losses and adjust claimsCreate annual reportsCreate financial ratio reportsStudents graduating from the Davey Risk Management & Insurance program will have one of the most advanced educations in the insurance industry and the corresponding experience needed to hit the ground running in advanced / FastTrack positions and our business partners will have intimate access to this talent pool.
