Mobile Monday Italy, founded in October 2004 by Jaana Heikkila and Gianmauro Calafiore, is the third chapter after Helsinki and Tokyo. The Italian Mobile Mondays on December 2013 counts on 5,000 members and the events are organized in three cities: Milan, Rome and Bologna. The remarkable Mobile Monday phenomenon began almost by accident in Helsinki, Finland during the autumn of 2000. A couple of well-known Finnish visionaries, invited the who's who of the Finnish mobile industry to a pub for an informal get-together and perhaps a warming drink. The only suitable time? Monday evening. After meeting many new faces and discussing the latest in mobility, the group decided to continue meeting on the first Monday of each month — and thus, Mobile Monday was born. Towards the end of 2004, the movement started to spread to other areas of the world and new MoMo chapters were started in Tokyo, Japan, Silicon Valley, USA as well as Rome and Milan, Italy. Since then, the number of Mobile Monday chapters and members has dramatically increased making Mobile Monday the world's leading mobile community. Mobile Monday is a global community which brings together industry visionaries, developers, decision-makers, researchers and funding agencies from the mobile industry through monthly events held on Monday, international conventions, the online community and newsletters. Mobile Monday fosters cooperation and cross-border business development through virtual and live networking events to share ideas and best practices, to promote innovation within the mobile industry, to encourage networking amongst different organizations and to communicate industry trends, research findings and future projections of global markets.
