The BA-Depository Library organizes The Model of American Congress program this year (2012/2013) in Alexandria. The Model gives students a chance to engage in a role-playing simulation of the United States Congress, introducing them to the diversity of American politics and society, and training them in civic leadership and political debate.\The U.S. Embassy has supported the Model of American Congress programs at Cairo University since its inception in 2002. In 2009, new programs started in Alexandria University in 2009 and were run for three consecutive years. Thousands of students from colleges in each city have participated in the program, which culminates in a successful MAC conference each summer. Leaders in each year's program have traveled to Washington for hands-on training in American political process and an internship in Congress.\During the parliamentary elections this year, MAC students in Cairo were actively involved in getting out the vote and educating other students about participation in the elections. Alumni of the program have gone on to leadership positions in Egyptian politics, activism, media and government.\\Project objectives\\The goal of the Model of American Congress program in Alexandria is to cultivate leaders; improve their leadership, presentation and organizational skills in decision-making, teamwork and debate, through informal educational; and give students the opportunity to learn about the U.S legislative process and stay informed about current issues in American politics and life.
