Our mission, at Monroe, Inc., is to improve the quality of life for culturally diverse LGBT individuals and their respective families through racial and social justice, capacity building, advocacy, service navigation, programming, community mobilization and engagement. Our organization is an outgrowth of The House of Monroe, a collective of people, gay, bisexual, other same gender loving (SGL) men and transgender individuals Black and Latino youth, who share a communal lifestyle. The House of Monroe provided the foundation for Monroe, Inc. which was founded in response to the alarming, disproportionate, increase in new HIV infections among Black SGL men in Southeastern Wisconsin. We envision a community in which LGBT people of color are free from societal and institutionalized discrimination, health disparities, and other related inequities.
