The Montana Innovation Partnership (MTIP) powered by MSU TechLink Center is a strategic partner for Montana innovators, entrepreneurs, and inventors to help them access critical R&D funding and craft effective commercialization plans. We do this through education, one-on-one consulting, proposal reviews, commercialization planning, and collaboration with other technology-based economic development partners across Montana. MTIP works with individuals and small businesses engaged in research and development (R&D) of truly innovative technologies or products. Specifically, we provide in-depth assistance to qualified clients trying to secure federal funding for their R&D efforts. MTIP was established by the Montana Department of Commerce in 1999 to support technology-based economic development. MSU TechLink is a center within Montana State University and has collaborated with the Montana Department of Commerce (MDOC) and MTIP since its inception. In August 2018, MDOC transferred MTIP to MSU TechLink. The MSU TechLink Center is integrated with MSU's land-grant mission and economic development outreach. In addition to its SBIR outreach program, TechLink is the Department of Defense's national partnership intermediary for technology transfer. The center also manages MSU's Technology Transfer Office, a software engineering and analysis laboratory, and Bozeman PTAC. MTIP is driven by six objectives:•To offer technical assistance for SBIR and STTR proposals•To assist businesses in securing seed capital for research and development•To provide educational opportunities that target Montana's technology-based businesses and service providers•To identify and guide businesses to appropriate local and national resources - technical, business, financial or university•To deliver result- oriented services to help technology-based businesses achieve personal commercialization goals•To complement, not duplicate, the services of other service providers
